I was a digital journalist at Canadian 24-hour news channel CP24 until mid-August, when I resigned to pursue new content opportunities in San Francisco with my wife and daughter.
Before I left, I was more or less fact-checking the Ontario government’s lines and lies about the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, was able to reveal a quiet plan to supply rapid antigen tests to private schools for use on students, while public school students had no such option.
I also chronicled the efforts of ordinary public school parents to obtain rapid antigen tests to conduct surveillance testing in schools, and the Ford government’s decision to cut off their supply of free tests.
I also broke word of a plan to allow pharmacists to conduct symptomatic COVID-19 testing for the first time in Ontario, something epidemiologists expressed concern over even prior to the arrival of Omicron.
Months into my reporting, the Ford government eventually moved to offer free supplies of tests to all residents, something that really shouldn’t have taken so long.
In between these developments, there were other public policy shenanigans to document, usually and unfortunately involving children and the people tasked with educating them.
Previously, I worked at the Waterloo Region Record and the Guelph Mercury as a city hall reporter, Canadian Press, and Eastern Ontario’s finest student weekly publication, Charlatan.
Aside from love of journalism and politics, I spend an inordinate amount of time fretting about my beloved Arsenal Football Club. Come on Arteta, there’s more to being gaffer than a strategically placed f-bomb during the pre-match speech.
